The DAV Des Moines Thrift Store strongly believes that it is important to recycle our waste and unsold products. We are able to recycle many of the donated items we cannot use or sell and are then able to use the proceeds to benefit local veterans and the community – all while simultaneously benefiting the environment.

THE D.A.V. THRIFT STORE RECYCLES
MANY ITEMS, INCLUDING:

  • Belts and purses that are no longer usable

  • Cardboard (Many donations are in boxes.)

  • Clothing that is too worn to resell

  • Scrap metal and appliances

  • Shoes & Hats

*While we do actively recycle, we do not solicit the donation of goods that are not in a resalable condition.

Our Des Moines thrift store has a wide variety of items, cycling thousands of new goods onto the large sales floor nearly every day. There is always something new to find at the DAV. Plus, while we are always updating our available inventory; we rarely throw old items away. Items that do not sell are often repurposed or recycled, benefitting both the community and the environment.
